During their "break out" discussion, Ms L Alami, Minister of Education and Higher Education, Palestine, emphasised that education remains an absolute priority for Palestinians. "My Ministry is actively pursuing the Millennium Development Goals in education and we are already seeing progress. We reached gender parity in education a long time ago. 85% of primary students transfer to secondary education. Here lies the real challenge because our retention rate is only 50%. We are very anxious to make contacts with education institutions in Ireland so that we can learn from the many success stories in Irish education."
