6 Mar 2006
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions is to unveil the 'agenda for women' in the current partnership talks, at a reception to mark International Women's Day, on Tuesday March 7.
The Congress 'agenda for women' focuses on what unions want to see emerging from the current partnership negotiations, in terms of improving the lives of working women.
Congress General Secretary David Begg will open the reception, while Assistant General Secretary Sally Anne Kinahan will formally unveil the Congress agenda for women. Among those in attendance will be Joanne Delaney, the Mandate shopsteward who recently won her battle for reinstatement, having been sacked by Dunnes' Stores for wearing a union badge at work.
Among the key issues on the Congress agenda are: reducing the gender pay gap and addressing low pay for women workers; ending the mistreatment of migrant women workers; the low workforce participation of women over 30; pensions; childcare; the right to flexible working and additional paid leave entitlements.
The reception will take place in from 2.30 - 4.00pm, on Tuesday March 7, in The Palm House, Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin 9.
