Congress Reacts to CIF Decision to Reject National Agreement
26 Nov 2008
Congress notes with regret the decision of the Construction Industry Federation to withdraw from the Social Partnership Agreement.
Trade unions with members in the sector are now free to present pay claims.
While individual unions and employers have in the past on occasion not signed up for the terms of the agreement this is the first time in twenty-two years that an industry sector has opted out. The implications of this decision require some reflection but it is not likely to affect the agreement as it applies to Congress, IBEC (the main representative body for employers) and the Government.
