Workers' Memorial Day Conference, Mon 27 April 09

For all those killed or injured at work

 

As part of its contribution to Workers' Memorial Day* - an international day in memory of all those killed or injured at work - Congress will host a special half day conference on the need for stronger penalties for those who put people at risk and the proper counting of those injured or killed at work.

The conference takes place in Dublin's Gresham Hotel from 10am-1pm, on Monday April 27.

The conference (see attached programme) will feature high level trade union and health and safety speakers, including:

David Begg, General Secretary of the Irish Congress Trade Unions; Martin O'Halloran, Chief Executive of Health & Safety Authority; Dr Martin Hogan lecturer in Occupational Medicine, University College Cork; Raymond Byrne, Director of Research at the Law Reform Commission, Legal expert health and safety lawyer; Esther Lynch Congress Legislation & Social Affairs Officer. The event will be chaired by Eamon Devoy, General Secretary Designate of the TEEU and Vice Chair of the Health and Safety Authority.

*Note to Editors Workers' Memorial Day is part of the World Day for Safety & Health at Work organised by the International Labour Organisation (ILO). The day falls on Tuesday, April 28.
