Congress calls for Lisbon Yes
21 Sep 2009
Congress has announced that it is to continue with its support of the Lisbon Treaty and will be calling for a 'Yes' vote in the forthcoming referendum.
A recent meeting of the Executive Council agreed to a continuation of the policy that was adopted by Congress in June 2008, in advance of the first referendum. This saw Congress voting to support passage of the Lisbon Treaty, but did not preclude individual affiliate unions from mounting their own campaigns, for or against.
The Executive Council agreed that the issue of Lisbon was "decided policy" and that the right to collective bargaining remained a primary concern for the Irish trade union movement.
