Congress calls for strong International Convention to protect Domestic Workers

1 Nov 2010

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has written to Minister Dara Callery, TD, in advance of the second ILO discussion on "Decent Work for Domestic Workers" due to be held in June 2011, making the case for strong support from Ireland for the adoption of a comprehensive international instrument to ensure decent work for domestic workers. We consulted with the Domestic Workers Action Group of the Migrant Right's Centre Ireland in drawing up our response to the ILO Office's texts of a proposed Convention and Recommendation. The texts are formulated on the basis of the first discussion by the 2010 International Labour Conference and will be concluded at the 100th session of the International Labour 2011.
