Equality at BDC 2015

Equality was a major theme at the recent Congress Biennial Delegate Conference (BDC) held in Ennis, 7 - 9 July

This motion,, proposed by the Executive Council, was introduced by Ethel Buckley, Executive Council member and SIPTU, who noted the contribution of the trade union movement to the recent Marriage Equality Referendum, and urged delegates to continue and enhance the trade union movement's committment.  The number of speakers to the motion was so high it resulted in the conference being behind schedule.  Contributions ranged from calls for publication of the long awaited comprehensive employment strategy for people with disabilities, child care costs and need for public investment and family leaves, and the need for civil marriage equality in Northern Ireland.

Claire Mahon also addressed conference on behalf of the Disability Committee.
