Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission 1st Strategic Plan

The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) have launched their 1st strategic plan today (26 January 2016).  This follows an extensive consultation process to which Congress made a submission.

The plan includes under goal 4 - Making equality and human rights real - has a welcome committment to “effectively monitor equality and human rights compliance in employment and service delivery”; and "having a strong collaboration with workers and employer groups to drive equality and human rights". Congress looks forward to working with IHREC in this regard.  

Update June 2016: Congress has written to the IHREC seeking consideration of this through Section 18 of the IHREC Act relating to advisory committees. This states that the Commission “shall, for the purpose of establishing and maintaining effective cooperation with representatives of relevant agencies and civil society— appoint such and so many advisory committees as it thinks fit to assist and advise it on matters relating to its functions.”
