9 th GLOBAL SOLIDARITY SUMMER SCHOOL
30/31 August 2017 - Wexford - “Building Global Solidarity in challenging times ”
80 delegates from across the island gathered in Wexford 30/31st August 2017 to discuss how Irish Trade Unions could influence global affairs and act in solidarity with workers struggles across the globe. (Pics here )
The opening Address was delivered by Sheila Nunan, Congress President and this was followed by an introductory session where unions summarised their work in global solidarity, including:
Congress was represented at the 106th International Labour Conference (ILC) by David Joyce (Congress Equality and International Development Officer) and Ethel Buckley (SIPTU and Congress Executive Council member).
Significantly, the conference saw the election of the Government of Ireland to the ILO Governing Body for the first time.

Conference organised by the Energy and Natural Resources Committee of Congress to examine the implications of a Just Transition for the energy sector in Ireland and internationally. Conference heard the perspective of trade unions, employers, the government, the environmental pillar and the view form abroad.

Ireland can be a leader in one of the most important turning points in modern history
Coalition 2030—an alliance of over 100 leading civil society organisations working in Ireland and across the developing world—have said that Ireland is in a unique position to play a leadership role in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. They were speaking at an event today (1st March 2017) at the Mansion House in Dublin to mark the formal launch of the group.
