9 th GLOBAL SOLIDARITY SUMMER SCHOOL

30/31 August 2017 - Wexford - “Building Global Solidarity in challenging times

80 delegates from across the island gathered in Wexford 30/31st August 2017 to discuss how Irish Trade Unions could influence global affairs and act in solidarity with workers struggles across the globe. (Pics here )

The opening Address was delivered by Sheila Nunan, Congress President and this was followed by an introductory session where unions summarised their work in global solidarity, including:

There was a session on Ireland’s treatment of Asylum Seekers which included inputs by:  

 Day one finished with a Trade Union Friends of Palestine Workshop

Day two began with a Report from recent “ Freedom of Expression Conference ” in Qatar by  Seamus Dooley, Acting General Secretary, NUJ

And a major session on Agenda 2030 – Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals with  Keynote Speaker: Theo Morrissey , ITUC (who also did a guest blog for Congress in advance)
