The People’s College will celebrate its 70th anniversary this Friday (9th, November) in the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin.
Founded in 1948 by trade union members and activists to provide workers' education, the People’s College continues to provide general adult education - languages, social political studies, literature, art appreciation and cultural activities as well as personal development and communication skills - for trade unionists, their families and the general public.
People’s College Director, Joanne Pearson, said: “We are proud to be a college of the people, by the people and for the people. For almost three-quarters of a century we have been providing life-long learning for workers and their families based on the principles of democracy and inclusion and ensuring that students are at the centre of all we do.”
The event will be addressed by a number of speakers, including the former Minister for Education and current Minister for Communications, Climate Action & Environment, Richard Bruton, TD and Congress President Sheila Nunan.
