Private Sector Pay Guidelines for 2019

20 Dec 2018

Pay

The Congress Private Sector Committee today issued guidance to unions in the private sector on how claims for increases in pay in 2019 should be framed.

The Committee have advised unions, that as a minimum floor unions should seek an increase in pay in the private sector of 3.4%.

The Chair of the Congress Private Sector Committee John Douglas said that based on advice we have received from the Nevin Economic Institute we believe claims of the order advised are necessary so that the living standards of ordinary workers can continue to improve.

Mr. Douglas went on to say that ‘the performance of the Irish economy has improved considerably over the last 18 months and workers in the private sector have made a significant contribution to this improvement. It should be remembered that workers continue to face very significant costs including the cost of housing and childcare and there is no sign that these costs will moderate in the near future’.

The Congress Private Sector Committee is made up of the all the Congress affiliated unions with members in the private sector of the economy and since 2016 the Committee has issued guidance to unions on pay bargaining.
