The People’s College, Adult Education Association, at 31 Parnell Square, Dublin, has opened enrolments for its Autumn 2019 courses. The College offers a range of courses including arts, crafts, creativity, computing, music, health and wellbeing, personal development and languages.

One of the most popular courses has been painting for beginners and aspiring artists using pencil, charcoal, and acrylics.  There are also classes in watercolours and the use of brushes. Grainne Carr is the tutor.

Susan Knight, author of three novels and several stage and radio plays, will lecture on the art of creative writing and it's aimed at those who have done already some writing or those who want to get started.

For those who use laptops and PC’s but want to learn more, there are courses on computers, with basic lessons on sending an email, banking, use of social media, mobile phone use and sharing photographs.

Alan Grundy, one of the country’s most experienced guitar teachers will give practical lessons in playing the guitar and ukulele. Peter Phelan has classes on the tin whistle for beginners and intermediate musicians covering all aspects of traditional Irish music.

Mind, body, and soul are catered for as well at the People's College Autumn classes. There is an introduction to herbal medicine, mindfulness, meditation, and relaxation. The positive psychology course enables participants to understand what to do to feel better almost instantly, and simple practices to improve your well-being.

Yoga, self-defence, public speaking, English literature appreciation, history – Dublin in the Rare Auld Times and exploring James Joyce’s Dubliner’s and Portrait Of The Artist as a young man is among the personal development courses on offer in the Autumn term. There are also several language classes available in French, Spanish, Italian and Irish.

Some of the more unusual classes on offer include self-defence for men and women of all ages. The tutor is Ben Somers 3rd Dan Ninjutsu instructor and Tai Chi expert. Ben is also an ontology instructor (the branch of metaphysics dealing with the nature of being) and will help students uncover truths about themselves in his “reality check” course, “how to spot illusions as they arise, and how to disentangle ourselves from them, what a successful life really means as opposed to being trapped by fear and the illusion of time”.
The courses range in price from €95 to €145 per term.
