Ireland's Social & Economic Infrastructural Needs
16 June 2017, 10:30 - 12:30
Why we need to invest in our infrastructure, with Tony Horan, ACEI and Caroke Pollard, MRIAI
Tony Horan, ACEI:

“Capital Investment in Ireland, Infrastructure: Societal Impact, Needs Funding & Planning. Infrastructure is an important element in society and the economy. It is a determinant of health and an influencer of well-being; a maker of places, a provider of access, opportunity & equality, a mark of the value a nation puts on its society. It is not an extravagance and needs to be conceived, planned, funded and delivered”.
Carole Pollard, MRIAI:
“More than one hundred years ago, Irish Patriot Patrick Pearse wrote about his dreams for Ireland: a bold and ambitious vision for an infrastructural project that would realise the full potential of our nation. What would Pearse make of our country today? Would his rhetoric be any different? Would he decry the housing crisis? Urge action on climate change? Lament the long commutes and fractured family lives of so many who cannot afford to live where they work? We have the evidence to show that investing in good design pays off. What we need now is greater ambition to invest in Irish infrastructure with a renewed drive for excellence in design.
