Irish Congress of Trade Unions Global Solidarity Summer School

25 July 2018 - 26 July 2018, 00:00 - 00:00

 Building our Power – Organising for Global Solidarity

Emily Paulin of the ITUC Global Organising Academy, in advance of the upcoming ITUC Congress, Copenhagen, 3 to 7 December 2018, will discuss how Unions have come a long way in “Building our Power” since the last ITUC Congress in 2014. Clearly, an intensified collective effort is required if we are to have the level of influence needed to “Change the Rules” and build the kind of world we wish to live in! New and innovative forms of Organising working women and men have been successfully introduced, adapting to the new forms of employment. New training programs for strategic thinkers and Lead Organisers are taking place. The ITUC will be convening a group of these persons to discuss as peers the experiences and lessons learned to offer the ITUC Congress approaches and plans for the future.  This session provides an opportunity to discuss and provide input to our delegation to the ITUC Congress.

Sub themes to be discussed include: Palestine, Right to work for Asylum Seekers, Global Ireland' - Ireland's Global Footprint to 2025”, plus a Rohingya photographic exhibition.  Other speakers to include;

  • Kevin Callinan, Congress Vice President;
  • Asylum seekers – Right to work campaign – Michael O’ Neill, IHREC and MASI;
  • Update on Agenda 2030 from trade union reps to Coalition 2030 and Valerie Duffy (NYCI and C 2030 rep at High Level Political Forum in New York)
