Employment Development & Information Centre Longford Employment Development & Information Centre is a Resource & Training Centre for the Unemployed. The Centre is based in a purpose built building with spacious training rooms, specially designated craft areas and IT rooms.

About us and our training programmes

The EDI Centre in Longford was established in 1998 by Longford District Council of Trade Unions and Longford Community Resources Ltd.

The overall aim of the EDI Centre is to help meet the needs of people who are at present unemployed and provide a range of education and support services to unemployed people living in County Longford and the surrounding areas.

The focus of work in Longford EDI Centre is on:
Information Provision and Dissemination
Mediation and Pre-employment supports
Education and Training
Enterprise Development
Delivery of outreach services to rural areas
Delivery of a furniture recycling service

REVAMP Training Project
This is a 36 week Local Training Initiative funded by Longford/Westmeath Education Training Board (LWETB), sponsored and delivered by the EDI Centre and provides QQI Accredited Training for unemployed people.

Throughout the training programme, REVAMP aims to raise the skills, self-esteem, aspirations and achievements of the participants through high quality training within a professional, caring, communicative environment.

In first 5 years 70% of trainees progressed into full time work, Apprenticeship, Education or Training.

Training is offered to both male and females and commences in September each year, with places for 16 participants at any time.

QQI Modules included during the Programme include:

Floor and Wall Tiling, Upholstery, Woodwork, Health & Safety Awareness, Computer Literacy, Communications, Application of Number, Work Experience

Catering and Life-Skills Programme
The need was identified in 2007 for further training for unemployed youth and the catering sector was chosen as a suitable area to develop training as progression routes are available in employment and further training.

This 50 week Local Training Initiative takes place in the centres modern and spacious catering facility with a capacity of 16 trainees. This is a live production unit providing meals in the Centre for trainees and other participants that use the centres many other facilities on a daily basis.

Kitchen Skills
Handling Food Hygienically
Meal Service
Customer Care
Personal Effectiveness
Information Technology Skills
Work Experience

In addition participants complete Manual Handling training. All uniforms and protective work wear is supplied.
