ICTU WOMEN'S CONFERENCE CALLS FOR EQUALITY, INCLUSION AND SOLIDARITY.
Today, 29 September 2022, nearly 200 senior women trade unionists meet for the first time since March 2020 for the ICTU’s Women’s Conference.
Opening the Conference, Women’s Committee Co-Chairs Geraldine Alexander and Margaret Coughlan sent messages of solidarity to women across the world who are subjected to violence and harassment and who are resisting and fighting against misogyny and repression.
Speaking at the opening of conference, Geraldine Alexander said:
‘The trade union movement is made strong by the belief that an injury to one is an injury to all.
'As we gather here today to discuss and debate issues of huge importance for women and for the trade union movement, we remember women all over the world who have lost their lives because of violence and harassment. We also send a message of solidarity to women everywhere who are bravely fighting against violence and oppression.
Also speaking at the conference, General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation, Sharan Burrow congratulated the trade union movement across the island of Ireland for fighting for workplace equality, social justice and a fairer world.
