Congress is mourning the loss of our comrade Brendan Archbold today (28 November 2014). Brendan was a former Chair of our Global Solidarity Committee and was a leading trade union voice in campaigns to support workers rights around the world. He was best known for his role in the Dunnes Stores Anti-Apartheid Strike in the 1980s and was also known for his unstinting support for the rights of the Palestinian people. (You can view trailer of Ferndale Film's Blood Fruit - telling story of the Dunnes's strike here) Brendan accompanied the strikers to South Africa last year for Neslon Mandela's funeral.
He was an official with the MANDATE trade union who paid tribute to him today. SIPTU has also paid tribute to Brendan

He made a significant contribution to trade union global solidarity which will inspire generations to come.
