Britain's Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the EU, Keir Starmer MP had an hour long meeting about the implications of Brexit for Ireland North and South with Congress General Secretary Patricia King in Dublin this afternoon.
During the meeting the General Secretary emphasised the importance of the Good Friday Agreement, which for the past twenty years had underpinned peace on the island. She explained that a hard Brexit would have a "devastating effect" on the economies, North and South of the Border.
Patricia King also said many in Northern Ireland, including tens of thousands of union members, farmers and the business community did not want a hard border.
Keir Starmer, who was accompanied by Tony Lloyd MP, the Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland spokesman, gave the General Secretary a briefing on Labour Party efforts to break the Brexit deadlock in Westminister.
