Responding to the publication of the Government’s Action Plan on Collective Bargaining, General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, Owen Reidy said:
“We know that collective bargaining means better jobs, higher pay, and increased productivity. The Government’s recognition that collective bargaining benefits both workplaces and the wider economy is an important milestone and we welcome this action plan as the start of a new process to promote collective bargaining.
“The Action Plan contains some important steps forward. Commitments on access to workplaces, public procurement, and the wider promotion of collective bargaining all represent potentially meaningful progress. The Government should not be a bystander to job quality, it should be actively enabling and supporting it.
“Ultimately whether this plan will benefit workers will be determined by its implementation. The trade union movement will be relentless in ensuring that the commitments made are honoured in spirit and deed.
“We will work intensively and hold all parties accountable to ensure this Action Plan is implemented in full, and delivers real, tangible benefits for all workers."
