- All workers affected by collapse advised to make immediate contact with their union
The Construction Industry Committee (CIC) of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions has advised all workers affected in any way by the collapse of UK outsourcing giant Carillion 'to make immediate contact with their trade union" to ensure that construction workers do not lose out and are protected.
Speaking on behalf of the CIC, Billy Wall of the OPATSI union said: "Construction workers cannot be allowed to bear the brunt of the Carillion collapse and the huge flaws in policy making that have brought us to this impasse.
'the collapse shows the huge dangers inherent in the outsourcing of public investment programmes to the private sector. It was always claimed that this model protected the taxpayer and transferred risk to the private sector – Carillion shows that this is clearly not the case.
'the CIC group of unions will do its utmost to protect workers from the impact of this collapse and will press for policy change to make sure a debacle like this cannot happen again," Mr Wall concluded.
